About me

I'm Andy Lockley, a Creative Director working across all brand communication channels.
With every assignment I undertake I try and learn a little more about the constantly changing connected world. What I’ve learnt so far is that brand communication is no longer simply just what it says, more about what it does and how it behaves. I want to help brands create objects, experiences, products, services, innovations, content and collaborations that engage people in new and unexpected ways. To help brands contribute to and create pop culture rather than simply reflect it.

People often ask "So, are you a Copywriter or an Art Director?".
To me both are archaic terms, relics from a bygone era and pretty much obsolete in the modern creative agency. 
I build installations, design products, tell stories, instigate collaborations & partnerships, create experiences, start conversations between brands and communities. I edit, direct, write, design & photograph.
They haven’t yet come up with a title that covers all this, so until do, I guess 'Creative Director' will have to do.
Outside of Grey I shoot stills, play rugby, study horology, consume huge quantities of non-fiction content and Nandos and try to make everyday choices that have minimal impact on the environment and other people.

 

Experience

I studied Graphic Design & Photography in the shadow of the Cadbury chocolate factory at Bourneville School of Art and then Advertising at Bucks College. I graduated with a  student D&AD yellow pencil and barely 12 months later became the youngest ever person to judge D&AD at just 21. The record still stands to this day.

Helping to build 'industry changing' ad agency, St.Lukes, being seconded to TV production company Endemol (the creative force behind Big Brother) and heading up one of the most awarded agencies in the Southern Hemisphere, are a few career highlights. I’ve been fortunate to be involved with some alpha class agencies - Howell Henry Chaldecott & Lury, TBWA and Fallon London as Creative Director on Sony Europe. I helped innovative Japanese agency, Dentsu, found their London office before joining Grey London as a Global Creative Director.
I’ve been a regular judge at industry’s leading creative awards and co-founded the D&AD Regional Council - created to champion creative excellence in Design and Advertising throughout the UK.
Over the last 20+ years my work has been recognised by D&AD, D&AD Impact For Social Good, Cannes Lions, British Television Advertising Awards, Campaign BIG, Creative Circle, Creative Review, One Show and Clio. 
Whilst at Grey I've completed a master class in digital and interactive communication at Stockholm's Hyper Island and have been a guest speaker at IPA Planning and Account Management workshops and at D&AD. I also represent London on the Grey Global Creative Council, an invitational group of creative leaders responsible for identifying, fostering and crafting world class ideas across Grey’s world wide network.
