About me

I'm Andy Lockley, a Creative Director working across all brand communication channels.
With every assignment I undertake I try and learn a little more about the constantly changing connected world. Brand comms is no longer just about what a brand says, its more now about what it does and how it behaves. I want to help brands create objects, experiences, products, services and innovations that engage people in new and unexpected ways.

At Grey, its what we call 'cultural tinder'.

People often ask "Are you a Copywriter or an Art Director?".
To me, these are archaic terms, obsolete in the modern creative agency. I build installations, design products, tell stories, instigate collaborations & partnerships, create experiences, start conversations between brands and communities. I edit, I direct, I write, I design, I photograph.
Neither 'Copywriter' or 'Art Director' are broad enough to cover all this, so until they come up with a title that does, 'Creative Director' will have to do.
Outside agency life I take photographs, play rugby, study horology, grow vegetables and try to be a good Dad.

I studied Graphic Design & Photography in the shadow of the Cadbury chocolate factory at Bourneville School of Art. Ironic for someone who doesn't eat chocolate. After that I enrolled on the Advertising course at the revered Bucks College. I graduated with a Gold student D&AD pencil and after just 12 months in the industry, became the youngest ever D&AD judge at just 21.

Helping build 'industry changing' agency, St.Lukes, being seconded to TV production company Endemol (the creative force behind Big Brother) and heading up one of the most awarded agencies in the Southern Hemisphere, are a few career highlights. I’ve been fortunate to be involved with some alpha class agencies - Howell Henry Chaldecott & Lury, TBWA and Fallon London as Creative Director on Sony Europe. I helped innovative Japanese agency, Dentsu, launch their London office before joining Grey London as a Global Creative Director.
I’ve been a regular judge at industry’s leading creative awards and co-founded the D&AD Regional Council - created to champion creative excellence in Design and Advertising throughout the UK.
Over the last 20 something years my work has been recognised at D&AD, Cannes, British Television Advertising Awards, Campaign BIG, Creative Circle, Creative Review and Roses.
Whilst at Grey I've completed a master class in digital and interactive communication at Stockholm's Hyper Island and have been a guest speaker at IPA Planning and Account Management workshops and at D&AD. I also represent London on Grey's Global Creative Council, an invitational group of ECD's responsible for promoting creative excellence throughout the Grey Global network.
